green flash

A phenomenon that may be observed at the moment of sunset over a clear horizon, especially over the sea. Refraction by the Earth's atmosphere makes the last fragment of the Sun to sink below the horizon appear to break free and flash momentarily green before disappearing. The phenomenon is widely documented and has been recorded photographically.
